The daughter of National Resistance Army historical, Sam Magara, Patricia Magara has won the National Resistance Movement party primary elections for Katikamu South Member of Parliament.
The Luwero district NRM election officer Davidson Kamugisha declared Ms. Magara the winner with 8,340 votes representing 45% of the total 18,871 votes.
She was followed by Kalume Abubakar who polled 7,150 votes.
The incumbent Ssembatya Edward Ndawula came last with 3,381 votes (18%). Ssembatya, a former accountant at Parliament is serving his first term after winning the 2016 elections.
Patricia, a former State House employee stood for the same position in 2015 NRM primaries but was defeated by Ssembatya.
The Friday’s NRM results indicate poor voter turnout compared to 2016 when Katikamu South had 61,593 on the national voters register.
Only 18,871 voters participating in the NRM primaries implies the party has to work extra hard to retain the seat in Parliament.
