Nateete – Lubaga Court grade one Magistrate Timothy Lumunye has declined to release on bail controversial Pastor Augustine Yiga, who is accused of misleading Ugandans about COVID 19.
In his ruling, the Magistrate noted that although it is Yiga’s constitutional right to apply for bail, court has the final say.
The magistrate said he was not satisfied with the pastor’s claim that he is diabetic since he didn’t produce any medical proof.
Court also disqualified the sureties which were produced by the Pastor saying these were junior pastors under his supervision, that couldn’t compel him to return to court in case he is not willing
The Magistrate also noted that basing on the current lock down condition in the country, it is proper for Yiga to remain in custody for his safety
Yiga was therefore remanded back to Kitalya Prison until 5th May 2020 for mention
Pastor Augustine Yiga of Kawala revival church was arrested by Police last month on allegations that he appeared in numerous video clips claiming that COVID 19 pandemic doesn’t exist as its being said by authorities and that there is no Coronavirus in Uganda and Africa at large.
