PARK YARD CRISIS: KCCA Councilors March to Demolished Market

Kampala Capital City Authority Councilors have decided to march down to the Central Business District where police this morning woke up to demolish Park Yard Market.

The demolition came days before the elapsing of 30 days given to traders to leave, remedy as the land owners were selling the place to investors.

As traders wailed helplessly outside the sealed market early morning, side effects Kampala Lord Mayor convened a crisis meeting at City Hall where councilors decided to march down to the scene, for what they called a fact finding mission.

Speaking briefly to media before they set out, Lukwago said the council had grown sick and tired of “massaging the Kampala Minister Beti Kamya” on whose orders the market was demolished.

He said they didn’t want to listen to her or President Museveni anymore.

The motion to march down to the heavily guarded market was moved by Makerere University Councilor Doreen Nyanjura

She told reporters, “We were voted by the people to protect them. We shall now go and find out what is happening and see what steps can be taken.”
