The Pakwach district leadership has summoned a nurse working at a government health centre after she translated a speech for Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu as the National Unity Party presidential candidate campaigned in the area on Tuesday.
In a letter dated November 10, 2020, the Chief Administrative Officer, Stella Abyeto, said by translating Bobi Wine’s speech, Prisca Ouchi was taking part in partisan politics contrary to the Public Service standing orders that govern all civil servants.
“It has come to my attention that you fully participated in the campaigns as a translator. This is act is contrary to the provision of Public Service Standing Order after the Constitution,” the letter reads in part.
In adds: “Accordingly, you are required to report to the office of the CAO at exactly 8:30 am to show cause why you shouldn’t be disciplined,” the CAO adds.
Ouchi, who works at Pakwach Health Centre, said she is innocent.
“I had gone to the rally to see the man who was hyped by the media. While there and after the translator failed, I was asked to step in. Honestly, I didn’t know it was not allowed,” she added.
