A total of 66 cows were Friday delivered to beneficiary farmers in the south western district of Ntungamo under the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) program.
16 of the heifers were given out to the youth leaders in the area as part of a presidential pledge while the rest were handed to individual farmers under the program.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the district CAO Mr. Kweyamba Ruhemba urged them the beneficiaries to take good care of the animals to produce and multiply in number.
“Luck is where preparation meets opportunity; government has prepared these cows but the opportunity falls to those who are going to get them and their families come out of poverty” said the CAO
Sakina Ampaire Imama, the Ntungamo district vice chairperson urged the beneficiaries to desist from the practice of selling the animals instead of putting them to their intended purposes.
“The youths should not sell these cows immediately, they should multiply these cows so that it becomes a huge source of income to their families as they will be able to get milk and cow dung for their gardens” Sakina added
OWC coordinator Brig. John Tumwebaze revealed that the intended purpose of the animals is to fight malnutrition and improving soil fertility.
He revealed that the animals were procured by the NAADS Secretariat through operation wealth creation.
One of the beneficiary Nicholas Twikirize who is the Ntungamo district male youth councilor commended president Museveni for fulfilling the pledge to the youth leaders in 2014.
