More than 200 musicians are set to compete in the award competitions organized by supporters of National Resistance Movement (NRM) in which the winner will walk away with 5 million shillings.
While launching this competition at NRM headquarters Plot 10 Kyadondo, Mark Bugembe aka Buchaman the lead organizer revealed that the Awards named Museveni Election Music Awards (MEMA) are aimed at rewarding the person with the best song praising President Yoweri Museveni
“Musicians have suffered a lot because of Covid 19 and that’s why we have decided to put in place these competitions as one of the means of appreciating their efforts towards promoting peace and stability in the country.”
The awards he said are going to be held virtually at Kati Kati where only artists will be allowed and fans will be able to watch from their homes.
Balaam Barugahare one of the organizers says he received an idea from Buchaman.
“I sold this idea to Secretary Gen Kasule Lumumba, Maama Rose Namayanja Nsereko, General Salim Saleh and Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba all of who have supported the awards.”
Balaam said that he has already asked the Secretary General to ensure that President Museveni address the participants of that event via zoom.
“You never know Mr. President may decide to give a cow to each of the 200 finalists as you all know very well that his farm is growing bigger and bigger each day.”
The event will take place on 31st December at Kati Kati where the overall winner will walk away with 5 million shillings while others will receive certificates and medals in recognition of their efforts.
At the launch Artists who included Fred Ssebale, Amir Sengendo, Buchaman and many others entertained the guests with NRM Campaign songs which they have prepared for that event.
