Buganda road grade one Magistrate Doreen Kalungi has released four officials from the Office of the Prime Minster, who are accused of colliding to inflate prices during procurement of COVID 19 relief food supplies
The officials are Guwatudde Christine Kintu the Permanent Secretary, Wanjala Joel the undersecretary and accounting officer, Lutimba Kyeyune Fred the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Procurement in OPM and Owor John Martin Commissioner in charge of relief, disaster preparedness and management.
These were released on 3 million shillings non cash bail each while each of their sureties signed a non-cash bond of 20 million shillings
All the applicants have been ordered to deposit their passports in court until the final conclusion of the matter
The magistrate said she was contented that all sureties presented are substantial, and also overruled state’s fear that the four were likely to interfere with the ongoing investigation.
The application was heard via video conferencing technology, with the suspects following from prison.
The matter has been adjourned to 4th June for mention.
