Open Mic Uganda are set to treat lovers of art to a spectacular music and poetry experience in a unique live performance gala slated for July 29.
Dubbed “My Uganda”, the fun-filled art affair will be held at Kahwa2go, Ntinda Complex starting from 7pm.
Speaking to ChimpReports, Ernest Dennis Sesanga and Murray Shiraz Eaik, the directors of Open Mic Uganda, said they picked on the theme – My Uganda – to pleasantly deliver a message on “what it means to be Ugandan.”
Their choice of literature and music, Sesanga confirmed, will be laced with information on experiences about living in the Pearl of Africa.
Talented poets like Murray Shiraz Eaik (Black Poet) and Daniel Omara will electrify the evening with spoken word.
A number of musicians have also been lined up to spice up the night.
Started 10 years ago, Open Mic Uganda aims at creating a platform for poets in the country to use poetry to express themselves and get exposure in order to live off their work.
According to Eaik, “art enables people to express issues, unique stories, in an entertainment way.”
Open Mic Uganda also has a sister organization, Teen Poetry Slam, where they get different schools and teens to compete for awards.
To accommodate many poets, monthly events are organized so that every poet is given a chance to perform and a wide range of themes are considered to cover various topics.
