The 2017 season got underway with the first event of the year (Lato Milk Mbarara Rally) successfully coming to an end on Sunday.
Omar Mayanja and Hussein Mukuye (navigator) in Mitsubishi Evo X emerged winners posting a time of1:51:26 to finish in the prime position.
Despite earlier reports indicating Kakyeka stadium was not available for the opening day (Saturday), cost Federation of Motorsport Uganda (FMU) and local authorities agreed to use the grounds.
The rally got underway with a super special stage at Kakyeka stadium following a heavy downpour that rendered the truck muddy.
Kuku Ranjeet claimed victory in the 3km super stage in 4 minutes 26 seconds. Duncan Mubiru came second while Jas Mangat settled for third spot. Eventual winner Omar Mayanja finished 8th on day one.
Day two had six stages covering a total distance of 153.09km (competitive section) and only 22 out of the 38 crews managed to cross the finish line.

Omar Mayanja drove fastest clocking 1:51:26 ahead of Ronald Ssebuguzi and Duncan “Kikankane” Mubiru who came second and third respectively.
