Oguttu Leads NRM Offensive Against Opposition’s Njoki in Decisive Busia Polls

Newly appointed Returning Officer Umar Kiyimba has this Wednesday afternoon declared NRM’s Flag Bearer Paul Boniface Oguttu duly nominated to contest for Busia LCV seat.

Oguttu, who has the support of President Museveni, will have to defeat Democratic Party candidate Deo Njoki.

The FDC this week threw its weight behind Njoki and have vowed to campaign for him in a show of unity.

Oguttu was accompanied to the nomination venue by the NRM Deputy Secretary General Hon Richard Todwong together with other party leaders in the district.

Kiyimba said the NRM Candidate had met all the requirements as laid down in the electoral guidelines.

Speaking to the media after nomination, Oguttu called upon voters to vote him and he continues steering the district as he has been doing in the acting capacity for the last two years.

He left the district hall on a boda boda amid cheers from hundreds of his supporters.

Oguttu will later in the afternoon address a public rally at Madibira Primary School.

Busia District LC5 Chairmanship seat fell vacant after the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Mr. Ouma Adea, the NRM’s flag bearer in 2016 on grounds of having been nominated wrongfully because he was serving a sentence for having been convicted of bribery.

Busia district National Resistance Movement special delegates conference on Thursday endorsed Mr. Ogutu Boniface Paulo as the Movement flag bearer which saw four other Movement candidates step down in his favour.

Those who agreed to step down in favour of Mr. Oguttu include Mr. Stephen Mugeni, Eston Washwa, Wedakule Patrick and Wanyama Stephen who has hitherto been the party flag bearer.
