The Inspector General of Police, Martins Okoth-Ochola, has tasked the Director CID, Ms Grace Akullo, to send officials to Kasese and Butambala districts following the murder of three boda boda cyclists over the weekend.
The police spokesperson, Mr Fred Enanga, said Francis Tumusiime and Ronald Kyoya were stabbed to death in Kasese while John Ssenzira was strangled in Butambala.
Ssenzira, a rider of Safe Boda, a mobile app company, picked up a passenger from Kampala and rode with him to Butambala where he was killed and his body dumped in Kasuku stream.
He urged boda boda cyclists to be vigilant as police continues with its investigations into the murders.
“We remind bod boda riders to be vigilant because we still have threats. We continue to warn them to desist from long night travel. They need to coordinate with their colleagues at nearby stages so that they stop somewhere and let other boda boda riders familiar with the area take the passenger further,” Mr Enanga told journalists in Kampala on Monday.
This comes after John Bosco Mugisha, alias Mukiga, and Aloysius Tamale, alias Young Mulo, were arrested over on murder and robbery of boda boda riders in Katwe and Old Kampala.
Mukiga and Young Mulo, were on June 29 captured on a CCTV camera killing Derrick Muwonge, a boda boda rider, and later taking his motorcycle.
Mr Enanga said police have arrested a total of 19 suspects, including the killers and buyers of the stolen motorcycles.
He said that they have compiled the evidence against the suspects and sent the files to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for perusal and advice.
