The Nyege Nyege festival is one of the biggest events held every September in Jinja and it brings together many lovers of art and music for a four day fun-filled get away. People come in from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, US, and many other countries to have the ‘nyege nyege’ experience.
This year, unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is impossible to hold the usual Nyege Nyege event proceedings like the previous editions since it involves massive gatherings of people from all walks of life and is likely to facilitate the spread of the coronavirus.
As such, the 2020 edition will be held virtually from 3rd to 6th December.
Derek Debru, the co founder of Nyege Nyege noted thus, “We are back with 4 days and 4 nights of pure entertainment, combining a series of COVID-safe activities around Kampala with a custom digital experience curated by artists from 27 participating countries. Fans should expect the very best that East Africa’s art scene has to offer with live music, comedy, fashion, film, digital art, and many collaborative experiments in-between.”
Unlike before, this time round, many people will get to attend Nyege Nyege from the comfort of their homes via various platforms.
Afrigo band, Cindy Sanyu, Jose Chameleon, Principe (Lisbon), Jooko (Barcelona), Moonshine (Quebec), Kenyan comedy star Mammito and many more will be among those giving performances that will be live for 96 hours.
