The state prosecution in case where Makerere University Lecturer Dr Stella Nyanzi is charged with offensive communication and disturbing the peace of President Yoweri Museveni and his late mother Esteri Kokundeka, has finalized investigations in the matter.
The matter appeared today before Buganda Road Grade one magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu for mention and the state prosecutor Janat Kitimbo informed court that investigations are complete and that the matter should be fixed for hearing.
In the previous court session, Nyanzi was informed of her rights to apply for bail but she turned it down saying that there was nothing much to investigate. She asked to be remanded back to Luzira as she awaits a speedy trial.
In court today Dr Nyazi wore a smile as the magistrate adjourned the matter to 10th December 2018.
Addressing journalists after court, Nyanzi’s lawyer Isaac Semakadde said if President Museveni fails to turn up in court as a prosecution witness, he will not hesitate to ask court to dismiss the matter.
According to Semakadde, President Museveni is a key witness in the case since he is the one alleging to have been offended by Nyanzi’s Facebook posts.
Prosecution contends that this year on 16th September in Kampala, Nyanzi used a computer to post vulgar messages on her Facebook wall against president M7 and his late mother.
