Popular Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli spent the better part of Wednesday in a cleaning exercise in Dar es Salaam after ordering his countrymen to celebrate Independence Day by cleaning their neighbourhoods.

Magufuli and his aides were seen removing rubbish from areas near State House.

He urged residents to join hands with the view of keeping a safe and clean society.

The president has in recent weeks won international praise for cracking down on corruption and taking a robust action against wasteful expenditure.

He recently fired the Ports Authority managers for allowing in the country trucks carrying goods without paying taxes.

Presidency official Gerson Msigwa today cited Magufuli as ordering that “Independence Day should be a working day not a holiday.”

He added: “If you have important work to do in office, health http://conceive.ca/wp-content/cache/wp-cache-8d928affe0d96c14d229638d92c2993e.php please go and work or participate in the communal cleaning exercise,” said Msigwa.
Abim District leadership is weighing serious disciplinary action against a medical officer at Abim Hospital who led opposition FDC candidate Dr Kizza Besigye in a guided tour around the dilapidated facility.

Abim Chief Administrative Officer [CAO] Moses Nandhala Kaziba on Monday responded with an unsympathetic letter to the nursing officer, demanding an explanation for her actions.

The CAO termed as ‘unfortunate,’ media images of the nurse showing “political leaders through the hospital and taking them through the working status and general conditions of the hospital.”

“You went further and revealed unauthorized information,” rebuked the CAO. “You should remember that you signed an oath of secrecy and oath of allegiance and in particular you vowed not to reveal any unauthorized information.”

In the December 7th letter, the Mr Kaziba demanded that nursing officer lists within seven days the reasons why she should not be relieved of her duties.

“You should show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for revealing unauthorized information.”

Abim Hospital’s poor condition has for a long time been a major cause of frustration to the area residents who have waited years for its renovation.

The First Lady Janet Museveni who is also Minister in Charge of Karamoja Affairs recently visited the facility and was appalled by its status. She ordered district leaders to ensure that renovation works are expedited.

In May this year, while the Parliamentary Government Assurances Committee members visited the Hospital, they were informed that it at that moment lacked running water, and that it was functioning without a medical doctor.

“Abim Hospital has for four years not had any running water; patients have had to fetch water from outside the hospital. Even during operations doctors use water that has been fetched by the medical staff,” revealed the then The Acting Chief Administrative Officer of Abim district, Mr. Nelson Olwit

He added that because of the bad state in which the hospital is, the district had failed to attract any medical doctor.
