Muwada Nkunyingi, one of the Lawyers of the National Unity Platform party (NUP), who is also vying for the Kyadondo East Parliamentary Seat on the NUP ticket was arrested over the weekend together with his campaign assistant Nkedi Malimbolimbo.
At the time of his arrest, Nkunyingi was holding door to door campaigns.
He says during his arrest he was badly beaten up by security officers, before being whisked off to Kasangati Police Station where he was charged with defying the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health in the fight against COVID-19.
Muwada recently came up to demand for the academic papers of President Yoweri Museveni, through the Electoral Commission.
Later on Sunday, the lawyer was reportedly driven Busukuma Police station, where he was given Police Bond.
According to the Search Certificate that was released by police, election posters (size 22.5), a red Beret, an umbrella, a notebook containing 9 membership cards of NUP and two quire counter books were seized.
It should be noted that on the same day of his arrest, other candidates including Joel Ssenyonyi the NUP spokesperson were holding a door to door campaigns.
After his release, Nkunyingi who together with his assistant are nursing police keeps on arresting opposition politicians while leaving their NRM counterparts to campaign freely.
