Ntungamo Municipality Polls Postponed as Candidates Ferry in Alien Voters

The NRM Electoral Coordinator for Western Region Dr Kamukama Dickson has postponed the Ntungamo Municipality Mayoral and Council party elections that should have taken place on Monday due to flaunting NRM regulations.

Dr Kamukama flanked by district NRM registrar Maria Mirembe, RDC George Bakunda and the District NRM vice chairperson Evans Asiimwe Rutahweire said Mayoral and Councilor elections in Ntungamo Municipality have been called off until further notice.

This followed reports that three candidates were caught ferrying people from outside the municipality to participate in the election.

Kamukama warned that the culprits risked being disqualified entirely, and urged all candidates elsewhere to stop using illegible voters.

The hotly contested mayoral seat has attracted three people including the incumbent Jacob Kafureeka alias Jack Jex, the chairperson Eastern Division Hajji Hakim Muheki Rwomushana and district councilor Ronald Bukenya.

The RDC Ntungamo George Bakunda said that the security will not allow foreigners to come and decide on behalf of the Ntungamo Municipality people on who should lead them.

The Ntungamo District NRM vice chairperson Asiimwe Evans Rutahweire condemned the act saying that NRM party doesn’t tolerate such behavior.
