Police in Mbarara are investigating the cause of the fire that gutted the house of the Ntare School head master, Jimmy Turyagyenda, destroying property worth millions of shillings including his car .
The fire, which started at around 2pm on Saturday, May 23, gutted the house, which is located within the school campus.
Samson Kasasira the Rwizi regional police spokesperson says the head teacher’s vehicle, a Toyota corolla number UBE 219P, and other household property was destroyed in the fire.
Kasasira says police’s preliminary findings indicate that the fire could have started from an electric short circuit between the garage and the kitchen.
He added that the police fire brigade responded immediately and put out the fire before it could destroy the rest of the house.
The fire caused extreme panic with hundreds of school staff running out of their houses.
