Three Court of Appeal Judges led the former Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma have declared NRM’s Peter Mugema alias Panadol as the validly elected Iganga Municipality, after quashing a Jinja high court decision that nullified his election.
The judges in their ruling read by Deputy Registrar Esther Nambayo, reversed most of the grounds on which the Jinja Court judge Margaret Mutoni based on to cancel his election
The judges overruled the claim that Panadol paid a bribe of 300,000 shillings as an offertory during and overnight prayer service, pointing out that in no way can a church offertory be considered a bribe.
Panadol has been awarded all costs of the case
Addressing the press, the triumphant MP expressed joy for the victory, while on his part, Mudyobole called a need for the law to be reversed to allow election petitions to proceed to the Supreme Court.
