Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer Isaac Joakino Etuka has floored two other competitors to retain the Upper Madi constituency Member of Parliament seat.
In an election held on Thursday June 22, Etuka polled 10,076 votes (76.9%) beating John Drazu Arumadri from Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who got 1174 votes (9%) and Independent Martin Drito Andi who raised 1223 votes (9.3%).
According to a return form for Transmission of results, signed by Arua District returning officer, Ruth Acoc Angom, a total of 13108 ballots were counted and 636 votes (4.9%) were invalid.
The Upper Madi constituency seat fell vacant in April after Court of Appeal annulled the election of Etuka following a deduction that he was wrongly nominated by the Electoral Commission and included on the ballot paper.
Court of Appeal judges overturned an earlier decision by Arua High Court’s Justice John Eudes Keitirima who had upheld the election of Etuka.
The judges re-evaluated the evidence on record and found out that Etuka’s nomination as the NRM flag -bearer had been cancelled on the eve of the February 18th/2016 General elections by virtue of a court order obtained by his competitor Martin Drito.
