President Yoweri Museveni last night laughed off the opposition and foreign influencers over what he called their failed attempts to derail his party the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The president was speaking in light of the just concluded Special Interest Group elections which were swept by the NRM.
Speaking at State House Entebbe on Thursday evening, Museveni said despite the efforts by opposition and foreigners to sabotage NRM’s victory, the party won by landslide.
“What actually happened with the PWDs, oh big victory for NRM. There are 49,000 positions in Uganda. NRM took 41,000, that is 85% and then independents which means NRM, when you hear independents you know that is NRM were the second group 13%,” said Museveni.
He noted that what was regarded as others (other political parties) got only 2% of election victory.
The older persons, Museveni said that out of 57,000 positions, NRM won 50,000 representing 87%, independents (10%) and the rest 3%.
For the youths, the President said out of 59,000 positions, his ruling NRM party won 47,000 representing 79%, independents whom according to him are normally NRM leaning got 15% and the rest shared 6%.
“All of them put together; NUP, DP, FDC, all of them 6%. And these youths, our children whom some the reckless people have been trying to mislead and then the foreigners jump in. I love those foreigners. Those foreigners look funny when I look at them. You cannot see adults looking funny as if they are children. The foreigners from different sources.”
He said foreigners are used to a “weak Africa”.
“Africa which is weak, which is manipulatable. They are very quick to jump into any issue. With Uganda, with NRM, they have a big job because we shall defeat all of them,” said Museveni.
Recently, the European Union ambassador together with other Ambassadors to European powers paid a visit to the presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
