NRM secretariat has highlighted the need for the party to also prioritize party supporters living in the Asian world.
According to the NRM Deputy National Treasurer Dr. Kenneth Omona, the party, has concentrated more on the NRM cadres in the Western World and has previously not given the Asian world its due attention yet there are ‘thousands’ of NRM cadres in that region.
He added that registering NRM cadres in the Diaspora will give both the party and the country good planning statistics.
Omona made the remarks during a special meeting with NRM Diaspora league members led by their chairman Hajji Abbey Kigozi Walusimbi.
The meeting took place at the NRM headquarters and was attended by among others; chapter leaders from USA, UK, Canada, Thailand, Turkey and China.
Walusimbi told us that the leaders discussed several issues including NRM road map, NRM Diaspora registration, upcoming Diaspora retreat, Secretary General’s visit to different chapters in the Diaspora and the Diaspora Industrial park which was promised by the President.
Hellen Namutamba Presidential Special Assistant on poverty alleviation encouraged Diaspora members to focus more on developmental ideas.
Omona thanked members for not only supporting NRM Party but also Uganda as a whole.
He also commended the President for the inauguration of a new national airline. “The Ugandan Diaspora would be crucial as far as Uganda Airline is concerned as it is a big travelling group of people.
This further underscores the registration of cadres in the Diaspora as it could be an additional tool in identifying airline routes of interests permanent or seasonal,” Omona said.
Meanwhile, Walusimbi said that whereas the gathering was more of those subscribing to the NRM party, many issues discussed centered on items benefiting the entire Uganda Diaspora regardless of party affiliations.
He advised that a speedy creation of a Ugandan consulate in Thailand was much needed citing an estimated number of Ugandans working in this chapter as standing at about 8000.
