National Resistance Movement yesterday swept the elections for the newly created districts, winning nine out of ten of the key posts there.
The new districts of Bunyangabu, Pakwach, Namisindwa, Kyotera and Rukiga went to polls to elect their district woman MPs and Chairperson LC 5s as well as district councils.
In Rukiga, Juma Adams Sheesha, the Kabale district electoral commission returning officer declared NRM’s Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi as the new Rukiga woman MP after she polled 17,507 votes; defeating FDC’s 23 year old Sheila Alituha who got 7,305 votes.
Dr Alexander Kampikaho of NRM won the LC5 Seat, defeating FDCs Ambrose Aharimpisya by 20,476 to 4,596 votes.
Justice Simon Byabakama Mugyenyi, the Electoral Commission chairperson said the Rukiga polls were peaceful, calm and that no case of violence was reported.
In Bunyangabu district, NRM’S Peace Mutuuzo was elected the district woman MP with 24,870, defeating Nyakaisiki Dorothy (FDC) 5,536 and Kiiza Lydia (IND) 1,892
The District Chairperson seat was taken by Ategeka James (NRM) who polled 25, 811 votes against Tweyongyere Silver (FDC)’s 5,136 and Muganzi Richard (IND)’s 1,083.
The people of Kyotera elected NRM’s Kintu Sekitoleko as the district chairperson by 19,481 votes while Lubega Charles (IND) got 10,692, Balojja Tom (DP) 10,080, Kaggwa Joseph (IND) 1482, Mugerwa Anthony (IND) 476 and Sekwe Gerald (IND) 233
NRM however lost the the district woman MP seat to DP’s Sentongo Robinah (DP) who trounced NRM Rachel Nakitende by 21,731 to 15,511 votes.
In Pakwach district, the District Woman MP seat was taken by Avur Pacuto (NRM) who 19,138 against Acayo Christine (IND)’s 11,568 and Binega Prosca (FDC)’s 854.
The District Chairman sweat was handed to NRM’s Omito Robert (NRM) who polled 21,982 votes.
Namisindwa district elected Grace Watua (NRM) as the Woman MP 23,819 votes and the District Chairperson seat was taken by NRM’s Wopuwa George William who got 25,052 votes.
