Members of the ruling National Resistance Movement in Rubanda district have petitioned the party Secretariat in Kampala over what they call irregularities in the ongoing party registration exercise.
The group accuses the party district chairperson who is also the Rubanda constituency MP Henry Musasizi, of trying to influence the ongoing registration and verification of NRM members.
The exercise started on 9th March and ends on 15th ahead of the party primary elections later this year.
According to the NRM secretariat guidelines, the party village committee members shall be the pivot of this exercise to identify the party registrars and update the members’ registers.
The group however, claims the district party chairperson Hon Musasizi used his powers to select his own polling agents and staunch supporters of his close friend Henry Banyezaki, the former State Minister for Economic Monitoring to be village registrars, which contravenes the party guidelines.
The locals add that Musasizi did not give any chance to the district village mainstream party committees to select registrars, a move they say could be aimed at rigging votes since he can easily influence and bribe them for personal political gains.
The Rubanda district Chairperson Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema and the district vice Chairperson Pastori Twinomuhangi want the national NRM secretariat to intervene immediately into the matter before the situation worsens.
Musasizi declined to comment on the matter.
