Sam Mucunguzi has been declared the winner of Friday’s National Resistance Movement party primary elections for chairperson LC5 Ntungamo district.
The Ntungamo district NRM election officer declared Mucunguzi the winner with 68,251 votes defeating the incumbent Singahakye Denis, who polled 33,151.
Mr. Tom Muhoozi, who was said to be favored by powerful hands in the politically fragile district, came third with 21,964 and Mpumwire Magambo came last with 19,728.
ChimpReports yesterday reported that Mucunguzi was on the comfortable corner according to preliminary results sampled from two sub-counties.
Unlike the Rushenyi primaries for Members of Parliament, the LCV race did not register any insecurity incident.
The Rushenyi NRM MP primary elections became chaotic when the register disappeared instigating a physical fight between the two camps of incumbent, Mwesigwa Rukutana and Naome Kabasharira.
Rukutana, who is also State Minister for Labour, is in jail for attempted murder while the victory of Kabasharira has since been nullified and vote recount has been scheduled for Tuesday.
