Mbale RDC Suleiman Barrasa Ogajo, the NRM District Registrar, Security agencies and the candidates in the NRM parliamentary primaries in Mbale have held an emergency meeting, in which it was resolved that the two candidates for the woman MP race should bring the declaration forms that were given to their agents by the NRM Polling supervisors so that the issue of rigging allegations is solved.
The race had four candidates namely; Mrs. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende who is the NRM Women’s League chairperson, the current Woman MP Connie Nakayenze Galiwango, Jalia Namasaba and Shadia Luwungule.
The major competition is between Wanyoto and Mrs. Galiwango whose supporters have both claimed victory.
The announcement of the final winner is expected to take place today (Saturday, September 06,) at the Mbale regional block.
Preliminary results yesterday indicated that Galiwango was leading but the Mbale NRM District Registrar failed to announce the final winner following the violence that broke out at the tally center between the supporters of both candidates.
Swaibu Busiku, a journalist working with IUIU FM Radio station in Mable City who was live at the tallying center via phone told Chimpreports that the fracas broke out when results from one polling station indicated that Wanyoto had scored 900 votes which the Galiwango side refuted.
“In the whole City, the total number of voters who turned up for the City Member of Parliament was around 500 votes but we were surprised to hear that Wanyoto had scooped 900 votes at one polling station,” he said
Supporters of Galiwango today (Saturday), stormed the offices of NRM in Mbale demanding for the immediate declaration of their candidate as winner which forced police to disperse them.
Police and the UPDF have since deployed at Mbale Regional Block to ensure that everything moves on smoothly.
