The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi today unveiled the detailed roadmap for the Arua Municipality Parliamentary by-election.
The party is hoping to have its murdered NRM strongman, Ibrahim Abiriga replaced by another NRM member.
Abiriga was shot dead on June 8th by assassins, on his way back home in Kirinyabigo- Kawanda.
According to the National Electoral Commission, the main by-elections shall be held on August 15 following nominations on July 19 to 20.
“Following the demise of the NRM flag bearer and constituency member of Parliament for Arua Municipality and the subsequent release of a by-election programme by the National EC, the NRM EC calls upon interested members to pick up party nomination forms to run for a new flag bearer,” announced Dr. Tanga.
Tanga said that all those interested to run for the party primaries should begin picking nominations from the party headquarters from July 2 to 5 and await for nominations on July 6 to 7.
“We shall be holding a consultative meeting with stakeholders at the district party offices on July 8; there shall be updating, cleaning and production of voters’ register from July 9 to 15.”
On the same dates, the EC boss said the party shall hold joint campaigns as provided for by the party constitution.
“Polling of a suitable candidate and flag bearer shall be held on July 17 and on the following day; we shall handle all conflicts if any with the aim of creating harmony.”
The party shall then escort their candidate for nominations at the national level which exercise will take place from July 19 to 20.
Tanga reminded those interested to present genuine academic qualifications and pay a non-refundable nomination fee of Shs2m to the NRM EC Accountants office before picking nominations.
