The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party election petitions Tribunal has nullified the victory for Hon Lubyayi Idi Kisiki who was declared winner for Bukomansimbi North constituency in the recently concluded NRM party primary elections.
The Tribunal declared Ruth Katushabe who had lost the in the first place, the winner.
Following the outbreak of violence and cases of vote rigging that marred the NRM primaries, President Museveni appointed the Tribunal to handle petitions of those not contented with the outcome.
This prompted Ruth Katushabe who had lost to Lubyayi to petition the Tribunal.
“It is therefore our conclusion that the petition against the respondent succeeds. The respondent (Hon Lubyayi Idi Kisiki) was wrongfully declared as the winner for the Member of Parliament flag bearer, Bukomansimbi North constituency, Bukomansimbi District,” the Tribunal ruled.
“We hereby declare that the petitioner (Hon Ruth Katushabe) is the candidate who correctly won in this election with 9,085 votes against Hon Lubyayi Idi Kisiki’s 8,972 votes and she should therefore be nominated as such to contest in the coming general election as NRM flag bearer Bukomansimbi North constituency,” it added.
