A female National Resistance Movement party delegate has succumbed to head injuries which resulted from a bodaboda accident during the just concluded National Delegates Conference.
Ms. Mary Lokel, the NRM Women League Finance Secretary for Kabong District, Karamoja region, was on Thursday pronounced dead from Nsambya hospital in Kampala after days of admission according to a statement from the NRM Secretariat.
“The NRM Secretariat announces the death of Ms. Mary Lokel, 62 who passed on from Nsambya Hospital this afternoon. Lokel has been the Finance Secretary for the NRM Women League in Kaabong District,” said part of the statement released on Thursday evening.
The deceased was among the delegates that attended the National Conference at Namboole National Stadium.
On her way from Namboole, she was knocked down by a speeding boda-boda in Nakawa as she crossed the road to pick a taxi to Luzira where she was heading to spend a night at her daughter’s home, one Stella Lokel.
The late immediately suffered convulsion from the effect of the accident force which sent her to the ground.
Lokel has since Saturday been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nsambya until she took her last breath yesterday afternoon.
The NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba and Women’s League Chairperson, Lydia Wanyoto Mutende visited Nsambya Hospital on Wednesday to check on Lokel and another delegate, Mrs. Enid Tumusiime. Mrs. Tumusiime is the NRM Vice Chairperson Women’s League for Bushenyi district.
Lumumba has reportedly committed a team from the NRM Secretariat to help the family of late Lokel in burial arrangements.
“The SG has dispatched off a team of her staff to the Hospital to join the family in the preliminary burial arrangements,” added the statement.
