Today, Monday 21st September 2020 marks the start of the exercise to nominate candidates to contest for the 45,127 elective positions at Local Government Councils in the 146 districts/ cities across the country.
The exercise will run up to 1st October 2020.
The Electoral Commission acting spokesperson Paul Bukenya said on Monday that the nomination of candidates shall begin at 9am and end at 5pm during weekdays.
DATES AND VENUES FOR NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES
The district/ city chairpersons and councillors: 21st September to 1st October 2020 at the respective District headquarters.
Municipality/ City Division chairpersons and councillors: 21st September to 1st October 2020 at the respective District headquarters.
Sub county/ Town/ municipal Division chairpersons and councillors: 21st September to 1st October 2020 at the respective county headquarters.
“The nomination exercise will be followed by a campaign period leading to polling days for various elective positions (above), during the period January 10th to February 8th 2021,” said Bukenya.
He urged all persons aspiring to contest in the elections to familiarize themselves with the requirements for nomination for each elective position.
Aspiring candidates can collect copies of the nomination forms and Electoral Commission guidelines from the district Electoral Commission Office in each district across the country or obtain soft copies of the forms and guidelines from the Electoral Commission website which is www.ec.or.ug .
