Police on Saturday confirmed that they have Eddy Sebuuffu alias Eddie Mutwe in their custody at Jinja Road Police Station but have not yet preferred charges against him.
Eddie Mutwe as commonly referred to is the Bodyguard of Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi.
Speaking to Chimp corps, Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed that Mutwe was taken to Jinja Road Police Station on Friday by plain clothed persons but declined to explain more.
“Eddie Mutwe was taken to Jinja Road police station by some people but the charges that have been preferred against him are yet to be known, I don’t know the charges. I will get back to you,” said Kayima.
It is however established that he was referred to the police station by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Department for safe custody.
Mutwe was last week Friday picked from a bar in Kampala by unidentified persons who were believed to be security operatives.
The operatives bundled him in a waiting pickup truck before it sped off to unknown destination.
Following his kidnap, Police and army denied having knowledge of Mutwe’s whereabouts.
Relatives and lawyers of the bodyguard filed a habeas corpus application at High Court in Kampala which later ordered the security agencies including Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), the Attorney General and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) to immediately produce him in court.
The court order followed a habeas corpus application that was made in court seeking a person under detention to be brought before a judge or magistrate especially to secure that person’s release from unjustified incarceration.
Through his lawyer Anthony Kusingura of Kiiza Mugisha Advocates, Mutwe petitioned the High Court to order CMI and the Attorney General to produce him in court immediately.
According to the court order, Eddie Mutwe is supposed to be presented in court on 4th September this year.
