The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has temporarily closed its Wakiso district office after a police officer attached to the office tested positive for Covid-19.
In a statement issued by NIRA on Wednesday afternoon, the officer was found positive for COVID-19 after the screening tests that were conducted at various NIRA offices.
“As we manage the situation, the NIRA Wakiso District office has been temporarily closed to avoid any possible further spread of the infection,” reads the statement in part.
NIRA announced that the office will be reopened to the public on Wednesday September 16, 2020, once the premises have been disinfected in line with Ministry of Health guidelines to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The services that will be suspended include issuance of National IDs, issuance of birth and death certificates, fresh registration for National IDs, replacement of lost, defaced and damaged National IDs and correction of errors.
“Clients may, however, access all other services from any NIRA office nearest to them except National ID issuance for those registered at the Wakiso office,” the statement further indicated.
