
Government through the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) has reportedly frozen up to 19 bank accounts help by to Non-Governmental Organizations which are being accused of financing terrorism in the country.
The affected organizations are Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) and the National NGO Forum which unites over 650 local NGOs.
According to Sydney Asubo who heads the Financial Intelligence Authority, these two organization have been “involved in terrorism financing activities.”
Asubo in a Thursday December letter to the office of the DPP said the Authority accordingly decided to freeze the bank accounts of the NGOs.
The frozen accounts are held in Stanbic, Absa, Standard Chattered and KCB
Officials from both organizations declined our requests for comments on the allegations.
