Police in Kampala are hunting for gunmen who reportedly kidnapped the CEO of Bunyoro Kitara Youth Initiative, an NGO operating in western Uganda.
Dr. Emmanuel Diini Kisembo, who hails from Kagadi district is said to have been kidnapped together with his two young children on Sunday afternoon at around 1pm in Luzira, Kampala.
The children are aged one and half, and three years, according to family members.
Kisembo’s younger brother Edward Kaahwa, who was with him at the time of the kidnap, says they were heading home after attending prayers on Sunday.
Kaahwa says a group of armed and unarmed men, all in civilian wear emerged from nowhere, grabbed his brother and the children and placed them in one of the two Toyota Premios they were driving, and sped off.
A kidnap case has since been reported at Kiira police station.
Kahwa believes the kidnap is politically motivated.
Dr Kisembo last year declared that he would be contesting for the Buyaga East Parliamentary seat on the NRM ticket in the 2021 polls.
Livingstone Akugizibwe a close friend of Kisembo’s told us today that Police has not given them any updates on the kidnap.
Akugizibwe, who is also the Ndaiga sub-county district councillor described the kidnap as a sensitive matter which he couldn’t discuss over the phone.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesman Luke Owoyesigire promised to get back to us with details on the kidnap case.
