The Kabale – Katuna highway which was recently renovated has developed cracks.
The road in 2016 underwent a Shs 150 billion renovation which was done by Reynolds Construction Company.
However, big cracks are now visible between Kyonyo and Mayengo in Katuna town council.
This has raised concern among road users and residents about the quality of work that was done.
Sam Mugume, a regular user of the road says unless remedial action is taken, the cracks may turn into dark spots on the road.
Nelson Nshangabasheija, the Katuna town council mayor says he has already alerted says UNRA to intervene.
He says the cracks are severe at Mayengo just next to the Katuna border and Kyonyo as well near Kamuganguzi health centre III.
The mayor says accidents have already started happening at these points.
Allan Sempebwa, the UNRA Media Manager says they are aware of the cracks and that they have already scheduled to start major works.
The cracks, he says, are being caused by the forces in the soil which have been coupled with the rain and landslides.
“Our teams are currently at Kaharo and we’ll soon be shifting equipment to those other sections,” he said.
