New Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) President Patrick Kanyomozi was officially ushered into office on Thursday to start executing his duties.
Kanyomozi who won the USPA Presidential elections on Saturday last week was handed instruments of power by outgoing president Sabiiti Muwanga in a function held at association’s offices at Mandela National stadium.
While handing over office, Muwanga congratulated his successor and cautioned him to uphold the values of USPA.
“I congratulate you for becoming President of the association and wish you well in your new position. I task you to keep the values of the association and most importantly the ethics of journalism that must be at the fore front from all members of USPA.” Said Muwanga.
Among the instruments of power handed over to Kanyomozi included the association’s files, documents, USPA stamp and the office at Namboole.
Kanyomozi who works with KFM and Kwese TV vowed to work for the betterment of USPA and foster unity among the members.
“I thank the former President because we have been working on the same executive and I believe he has played his role well. Like I said after winning on Saturday, my focus will be about making USPA a better association, fostering unity and improving our standards as sports journalists in the way we execute our work.” Kanyomozi said.
To become President, Kanyomozi overcame competition from Ritah Aliguma and Sam Kabuye Mpoza in a three man race. He garnered 64 votes while Aliguma and Mpoza got 36 and 16 votes respectively.
Kanyomozi becomes the 11th President of the sports journalists’ body that was started in 1971.
