A brand new Enterprise Grade, Tier 3 data centre, the first of its kind in the country has been launched in Kampala.
The Data centre named Raxio, a joint venture between Roha, an American Investment company and Roke International Investment, is a state of the art data storage and hosting facility.
It is expected to commence operations in July 2019 and will be able to accommodate 520kw of IT load.
Speaking at the official launch, James Byaruhanga, the general manager Raxio said the investment will help Ugandan companies, both private and public to have a safe alternative storage for their data/ information in case of any technical or artificial calamities
“Because of digital advancement, most companies and individuals have almost all their sensitive data stored on computers which are vulnerable to system breakdowns, hacking, human errors and other many challenges that affect technology. Companies need an external centre where such data can be stored privately and safely and can be accessed in case internal systems fail” he said
Robert Mullins, the Director of the group noted that the company has already completed a feasibility study and a site survey in Namanve where the center will be constructed.
Mullins said that customers that have high preference for privacy will be allowed to have personal servers at the centre.
‘This is going to be one of the biggest service private centres in East Africa; we are starting with data load storage capacity of 520kw. This is expected to be doubled to 1,040kw by 2020,” he said .
