NBS Television news anchor Samson Kasumba has been arrested.
The television boss, Kin Kariisa told ChimpReports that the journalist was picked on Monday night.
Asked why he was arrested, Kariisa responded: “We don’t know yet.”
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed holding Kasumba.
“Yes, we have him,” said Enanga on Tuesday morning when contacted by this website.
Pressed to explain the reason for arresting Kasumba, Enanga said a “statement will be issued in due course.”
It is understood Kasumba was picked by security personnel as he left his workplace in Kamwokya.
While police are yet to reveal the reason for Kasumba’s arrest, the development comes a week after an exchange on Twitter with pro-government officials.
Kasumba recently tagged President Museveni in a Tweet, saying “if only you placed all the power of the forces on the enemies of your government from inside stopping it from working for many instead forcing your government to work for them and their children, you will not need to fight with opposition.”
The tweet attracted a huge debate on Twitter.
Kasumba has in recent years attracted considerable following due to his antics and stunts on television.
His dynamic and distinctive style has made him a unique figure in the field of broadcasting in Uganda, bridging the gap between hard news and entertaining television.
