NBL: UCU Lady Canons Edge Closer to Title Defence

UCU Lady canons 53-50 KCCA Leopards

Uganda Christian University (UCU ) Lady canons cleared their chances of retaining the ladies national basketball league title after defeating rivals KCCA leopards to lead the final series 2-0.

In a game played at the YMCA outdoor court on Wednesday after a heavy downpour, visit the defending champions nicked a 53-50 to win game two of the best of seven series.

Like it was the case in the first game which UCU Lady canons won 70-66 in overtime, KCCA Leopards played catch up play for most of the time but were eventually toppled by a hard fighting Lady Canons.

Inspired by Ritah Imanishimwe who fetched a game high 18 points on the night, the university side began the better side denying shooting guard Martha Soigi chance on the ring.

Despite Timothy Odeke coached side fighting hard to match UCU Lady canons, the latter had the final nick and won the game 53-50 to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Judith Nansobya who had a game high 21 points in the first game, managed 13 this time round while Vilmar Achieng was limited to just 8 points.


Maureen Amoding had a game high for KCCA leopards with 17 points, while Soigi had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The result means UCU Lady canons need to win two games out of the possible remaining five to retain the league title. Game three is on this Friday at the MTN Arena,Lugogo.
