NBL Playoffs: KIU Titans Batter JKL For Third Place

Men: KIU 82-72 JKL

KIU Titans pummeled JKL Dolphins to seal their third place.

The University side won the losers match 82-71, at MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

KIU and JKL were the losing semifinals to City Oilers and Betway Power respectively.

KIU played with five players – Oscar Muge, Denis Balungu, Collins Kasujja, Chris Omanye and Michael Bwanga – for the whole first quarter, but they just trailed by only two points.

KIU led the second quarter 23-19 to take a 42-40 lead at the long break. With Sudi Ulanga and Wilson Otweyo joining the team, KIU won the third and fourth quarter 23-15 and 17-16 in that order to seal a deserved victory.

KIU’s Balungu who played every minute of the game, scored a game high 38 points before adding 13 rebounds.


Collin Kasujja and Oscar Muge added 11 points each for the Titans.

Jonathan Obukunyang had 19 points, Patrick Ninina managed 15 as Yesman Bushiri added 14 points.

In the Women’s category, KCCA eased past A1 Challenge with an 82-54 win to scoop third position.

Last year’s runners up won the whole four quarters 19-17, 27-12, 14-10 and 22-15 in that order to seal a deserved victory.

Joy Chemutai led with 20 points, Martha Soigi hit a double double of 16 points and as many rebounds. Sylvia Nakazibwe added 10 points for the winning team.

Stella Nikuze scored 13 points as Charline Ursula and Priscilla Sheila added 8 points each for A1 Challenge.

The two teams that finished third – KIU and KCCA – will be rewarded with Medals and a trophy each.
