City Oilers 57-72 KIU Titans
KIU Titans proved doubters wrong as they mounted to a 57-72 victory against City Oilers in the National Basketball League game played at YMCA Outdoor Court in Wandegeya, Kampala.
The defeat is the second, just halfway the first round, for the defending five time champions. Oilers had lost 56-64 to Power in their opener.
Michael Bwanga was the star man of the day, scoring 19 points. Denis Balungu and Samuel Agutu collected 13 and 12 points respectively, the latter latter adding 9 rebounds to his tally.
In a losing effort, Tonny Drilleba and Landry Ndikumana scored 13 points each to add on Enabu’s 10.
This is the fifth victory for the Titans (KCCA, Rhino, Warriors, UPDF, City Oilers), who have lost only once (46-47 against Sharing Youth) this season.
Titans will have no time to celebrate as they will play JKL Dolphins on Saturday at Lugogo.
KIU Titans’ perfect revenge:
Last season, KIU Titans lost both of their regular season games against Oilers: 73-64 on June 23rd and 61-64 four months later.
Both teams met again in the league finals, and Oilers swept Brian Wathum’s side 4-0.
On Friday, Oilers seemed to be on the right track to impose their dominance once again when they took an 18-16 lead after the first ten minutes.
However, the Titans bounced back to limit Mandy Juruni’s cream to just 9 points in the second quarter as Titans took a 27-35 lead at the long break.
KIU Titans returned to close the case, scoring 18 and 19 points in the following quarters in one of their best performances of the season.
