NBL: KCCA Leopards Win Game Three to Redeem Title Hopes

KCCA Leopards needed a spirited performance in the fourth quarter to win game three and redeem their chances of winning the national basketball league title.

After losing the opening two games with marginal points including game one that ended in overtime (70-66), about it KCCA Leopards had a resuscitated show in game three to draw the series at 2-1.

The Timothy Odeke coached side put up a spirited comeback to win game three, store 58-54 played on Sunday at the YMCA outdoor court.

KCCA had a slow start trailing the university side in the opening three quarters but a resuscitated performance in the fourth quarter enabled them to win with four points.

UCU began the better side taking the first period 16-08 before claiming the second quarter 12-09 and headed into halftime with a comfortable 11 point lead cushion.

However, there was a drastic change after recess with Leopards returning a recharged team taking the third quarter 13-11 and the gap had reduced to nine points heading into the final quarter.

Martha Soigi opened the final quarter with 2 free throws, before Moreen Amoding made two 3point jump shots midway through the fourth period.


A 2 point jump shot by Muhaimana Namuwaya gave KCCA the lead for the first time leading 46-45 with 03:20 minutes on the clock.

KCCA leopards never looked back and went ahead to win the game 58-54.

Martha Soigi had a game high 15 points with Flavia Oketcho adding 10 points for KCCA.

On the other hand Judith Nansobya had a team high for UCU Lady canons 13 points.

In the classification games played UCU Canons defeated KIU Titans 69-67 to finish the season in third position while JKL Lady dolphins edged out A1 challenge 57-38 to claim third spot in the ladies category.
