Police have promised to hunt down and apprehend whoever was involved in a shooting that left one person dead in Nansana last night.
The deceased, Dan Kyeyune, was shot dead in a scuffle between what police described as a “violent procession” and a joint patrol unit,
Kyeyune was a son of a police officer, Special Police Constable David Kabuye, attached to Kasubi Police Station.
The People Power pressure group claimed yesterday, that the deceased was their member.
“Police LDU shot at the crowd of people who were waving at me. Dan Kyeyune died on spot, others sustained severe injuries. It is totally dark here,” said the People Power head Robert Kyagulanyi.
However, Police say the shooter in this case is still unknown.
Kampala metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said this afternoon that investigations in the matter were underway.
“We will definitely identify the culprits behind the murder by shooting as well as those who were behind the violent and riotous crowds, and ensure they are brought to book,” he said.
In the statement, Owoyesigire blamed the chaos on two groups that he says confronted a joint Police and UPDF (LDU) patrol at Nansana Masitowa.
The groups, he says, were armed with sticks, disrupted traffic and also refused to heed to police orders to leave.
Meanwhile, the police publicist says the force has taken over the burial arrangements.
“The IGP has reached out to the family and expressed his heartfelt condolences to his father …the immediate family, all friends and relatives,” he said.
He further instructed the (CID) to investigate the shooting incident.
