Nansana Attack Death Toll Rises; Police Arrest Suspects

The death toll in the Cheap Hardware Shop in Nansana, Wakiso District has risen to three, Chimp Corps report.

This was after one of the injured victims, Amin Bugembe, passed away on Wednesday night.

“The deceased was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital and died hours later,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango on Thursday morning.

“This brings to the total of number of the dead to three.”

Armed gunmen yesterday in broad daylight stormed the hardware shop, before opening fire at its management.

With shocking boldness, the thugs even blocked traffic to facilitate the heist.

An unspecified amount of money was robbed from the shop.

Wearing hoods, the gunmen sped from the scene using motorcycles.

The armed raid occurred in an area that has a fully-fledged police station.

That the gunmen can carry out such an attack and walk away without being engaged by security forces underscores the need to improve the capacity of the armed forces’ rapid response units.

Onyango said three suspects have so far been arrested “to assist in investigations. We shall not disclose their identities as it may jeopardize investigations.”

He said the investigations were “going on well and there are good leads that we are following.”

The annual crime report for the year 2017 showed that a total of 190 cases of death by Shooting were reported in 2018 compared to 167 cases reported in 2017, implying a 13.7 percent increase.

A total of 218 people were shot dead, of whom 197 were male adults, 17 were female adults and four were male juveniles.
