Nandala Mafabi Evicted from “Personalized” Parliament Office

The Budadiri West Member of Parliament, Nandala Mafabi was on Friday evicted from a Parliament office he had held since 2014 and allegedly personalized.

When he was dropped as Leader of Opposition in early 2014, Mafabi settled for the small office on third floor in the northern wing.

Early this year Mafabi assumed the leadership of the coveted Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.

The legislator was asked by Parliament administrators, as is the practice, to vacate the smaller office since he is already occupying a bigger one as Chairman PAC on 4th floor (419) but he reportedly declined.

The development compelled the office of the Sergeant at Arms to forcefully remove the belongings of Mafabi from the office, which is expected to be occupied by Dokolo county MP, Cecilia Ogwal.

When contacted on phone, Mafabi confirmed that he was not supposed to leave the office saying besides being PAC Chairman he remains an MP for Budadiri West.

“I am MP for Budadiri West. I am entitled to an office. So where is the office of MP Budadiri West now?” he asked.

According to sources Mafabi, who is also the FDC Secretary General, had also been using the office for his personal business of money lending.

A brief statement issued by Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Chris Obore  downplayed the eviction term and said it was a usual reallocation of office space.

“So, this was not an eviction as some quarters of the media are saying but re-allocation of office space, which is a mandate of the Department of Sergeant-At-Arms,” said Obore.

Obore’s position however contrasts with that of Mafabi who bellicosely stated that the office belongs to the MP of Budadiri west besides the latter occupying PAC office.
