Namugongo: Housemaid Arrested for Feeding Child on Urine

Kira Division Police in Namugongo has Wednesday morning arrested a female suspect said to be a house maid on allegations of doing acts that are likely to harm the health of a person.

The suspect, according to Kampala Metropolitan police, is identified Vicky Abira. It is alleged that she is a maid to a one Hope Chicha, resident of Namugongo in Wakiso district.

It is said that Abira was hired recently to take care of two children but today morning, her boss found substances that looked like urine that she was going to feed the children on.

“The parents got concerned and asked her what the substances were and she could not easily explain. When they smelt, they discovered it was urine and when they questioned her hard, she confessed that it was indeed urine,” said KMP spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango.

Onyango revealed that the parents immediately informed police which responded and the suspect was arrested.

Detectives took her for medical examination where they tested her and the kids, unfortunately, one was positive of an STI.

“We are going to submit the substance to the Government Analytical Laboratory to confirm the DNA of the urine and further analysis,” Police said.

Onyango appealed to parents to always consider background checks of persons they hire to take care of their children before awarding them such responsibilities.

Cases of child abuse by house helpers are also reported to be on the rise in different parts of the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
