The junior Minister of Lands, Princess Persis Namuganza has picked forms to stand against Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga for the position of National Resistance Movement 2nd Vice Chairperson.
Namuganza surprised onlookers at NRM electoral commission offices on Wednesday when she demanded for the forms for position currently occupied by Kadaga.
“We first thought it was a joke or she was mistaking women’s league chairperson for the National Vice Chair Female,” said a source in Kyadondo.
The development comes a day after Kadaga returned forms to Kyadondo for the same post. Kadaga was on Tuesday welcomed at NRM electoral commission offices by supporters and admirers including former Housing Minister, Sam Engola, who is also the vice chairman NRM for northern region and Abdu Naduli, the Buganda region vice chair.
Kadaga, the highest ranking woman in government, told the media yesterday that she has committed herself for the women and the party.
“Uganda has registered significant positive strides in empowering women and gender issues in general. As I speak no budget can be passed at Parliament without the gender equity certificate and a lot still needs to be done,” said Kadaga.
Namuganza, a princess from Bukono Chiefdom disagreed with Kadaga and the entire Busoga Kingdom leadership when Kyabazinga Prince Gabula Nadiope was installed.
Namuganza, who wanted prince Columbus Wambuzi of Bulamogi to be the Kyabazinga, took a personal conflict with Kadaga and the latest development is not going to surprise many who remember the conflict.
The struggle for Busoga supremacy, where Kadaga wields significant power, is also seen at play as Namuganza makes moves to set political foots in the ruling party. The position automatically makes one a member of the covetous Central Executive Committee (CEC).
