Namibia Team To Face Uganda Named

Namibia Rugby team coach Phil Davies has named his squad to face off with the Uganda Rugby Cranes in their opening fixture of the Rugby Africa Gold Cup in Windhoek on Saturday.

The squad features Johan Deysel, who will be captaining the team for the first time.

Veteran Chrysander Botha will earn his 50th cap while André Rademeyer and PW Steenkamp will get their first test call-up

The Rugby Africa Gold Cup will double as a qualifier for the Rugby World Cup.

The tournament runs from 16 June to 18 August by the national teams of Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Morocco, Zimbabwe and Tunisia.

Namibia are the defending champions of the cup and represented Africa at the last edition of the World Cup.

They will be favourites for the cup yet again with the Kenya Simbas second on the cards to challenge the reigning giants.

The Rugby Cranes team was named on Wednesday with several key figures missing out while there are a number of players set for their international debuts.

Namibia and Uganda have met on four occasions with the former winning three of the encounters.

Uganda’s only win came in 2007 as the East Africans clinched their first and only continental Cup.
