MV Pearl, one of the biggest vessels on L. Victoria has finally returned after three months of servicing and repairs.
The vessel is the second biggest on the lake and plies the route of Masaka – Kalangala through Bukakata and Bugoma docking piers.
In March this year the Kalangala Infrastructure Services grounded MV Pearl for route maintenance which was done in Kisumu.
For three months the vessel was installed with high tech navigation systems from the magnetic compass it was previously using.
According to Joseph Mulindwa the Public Relations Officer of the ferry, it was checked from its hull and ballistic tanks to ascertain any damages.
“At the moment the vessel is undergoing sea worth testing at Port Bell and once it’s done we shall carry on with our normal operations”. He said.
He also noted that while on its usual route the ferry will still be free for everyone.
Currently Kalangala has 4 marine vessels that transport people and cargo; MV Vanessa, MV Kalangala, MV Ssese and MV Pearl.
