The MV Kalangala water vessel has been added onto the rescue operation that is underway at Mutima beach.
The operation to retrieve the wreckage of the ill-fated boat that capsized over the weekend resumed this morning after yesterday’s manual efforts were futile.
Police commenced the operation by using a hand excavator which however failed to pull the heavy wreckage.
Speaking to ChimpReports from the scene, the director operations in the Uganda police force Asuman Mugyenyi assured that the wreckage will be retrieved tonight if all goes well as per the operation plan.
Earlier, police marines and UPDF rescue teams retrieved a body of a yet to be identified person bringing the number of the dead to 33.
Meanwhile, Kampala metropolitan police has today handed over the unclaimed cars that were left behind by the victims of the ill-fated boat.
Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Lucas Owoyesigire said that a total of the 35 cars were unclaimed as of yesterday.
However, He confirmed that at least 29 cars have been handed to their owners and relatives of the deceased.
“We have been issuing them out basing on original car log books from owner and death certificates for the deceased persons,” he said
