Muvumbe Hydro Uganda Limited in Maziba sub county of Kabale district has embarked on a drive to plant fruit on the bare hills of Maziba Sub County.
The campaign aims at planting at least 11600 trees in the area through equipping the project affected people in the area.
Speaking at the launch of the program in Kahondo parish, Kabale district forestry officer Adios Kyomukama called on the locals to embrace the program, saying the management of the dam is willing to support them with planting material.
“There is no way we shall manage this climate change without planting trees, let us plant trees for the climate that favors us”, Adios said.
Kyomukama revealed that having trees on bare hills will conserve the environment and bring to an end the rampant soil erosion.
Muvumbe Hydo Uganda Plant Manager Mohamed Mufashir says the initiative is also aimed at bringing to an end soil erosion which brings a lot of silt in water thus affecting the effectiveness of their production.
